IVA Kerala, in association with the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CVAS), Pookode, successfully hosted the 17th Veterinary Science Congress (VSC-2025) from 7–9 November 2025, bringing together scientists, academicians, industry partners, students and farmers from across the country.
The Congress commenced with the Academic–Industry Meet titled “VET VISTAS 2025”, which focused on strategies for strengthening human resources in the veterinary and animal husbandry sectors in alignment with the national vision of Hamara Sankalp, Viksit Bharat.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Anil K. S., Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, KVASU. Key note address was delivered by Dr Aman Sayed, Managing Director (India) and South Asia (Regional Head) of ALLTECH BIOTECHNOLOGY PVT LTD. Felicitations were offered by Prof Dr C Latha, Director of academics and research, KVASU, Dr T S Rajeev, Director of Entrepreneurship KVASU and Dr ajith Jacob George, Dean, CVAS, Pookode. Technical sessions were delivered by eminent experts including Dr. Ilona Otter (WVS, Ootty), Dr. Aman Syed (ALLTECH), Dr. Deepthi Leelamany (CESSNA LIFELINE HOSPITALS, Bengaluru), Dr. Harikrishnan V. S. (Sree Chithra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram) and Shri Nikhil P. N., a career and placement counselor.
A campus placement drive for KVASU students was held alongside the meet, providing valuable opportunities for career advancement and industry exposure.
The two-day National Conference on Scientific Advancements and Sustainable Technologies in Animal Production, Health, and Allied Sectors for Viksit Bharat was inaugurated on 8 November 2025 by Dr. Artabandhu Sahoo, Director, NIANP, Bangalore. Dr K Jayaraj, Vice President (North Zone), IVA Kerala presided the inaugural ceremony. Dr V K P Mohankumar, general Secretary, IVA Kerala welcomed the gathering. Prof Ajith Jacob George, Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode and Chairman, Organizing Committee Prof Anil K S, Hon Vice chancellor of KVASU delivered the key note address. Prof Ally K, Faculty Dean of KVASU released the Conference Proceedings. Felicitations were offered by Prof dr Rajeev T S, Director of Entrepreneurship KVASU, Dr Binuprasanth President, Kerala State Veterinary Council and Dr K Jawahar, President, IVA Wayanad. Prof Dr Bindya Liz Abraham, Organizing Secretary of 17th Veterinary Science Congress proposed the vote of thanks.
Across two days, the conference featured six scientific sessions, including lead papers, invited talks, oral presentations and poster presentations representing diverse domains of veterinary and allied sciences. Around 160 papers were presented during the various sessions. The lead speakers of the National Conference on Day 1 included Dr Manjunath S P, Senior Veterinary Officer, Govt of Karnataka (Session 1- Veterinary Science in Clinical Practice), Prof V Ranganathan, Head, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology, Orathanadu, TANUVAS (Session 2- Basic Veterinary and Allied Sciences) Prof Dr B V Shivaprakash, Director of Research, Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (Session 3- Animal Health Sciences), Prof. Dr R Anilkumar, Director of Clinics, Tamilnadu University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (Session 3- Animal Health Sciences) and Dr Vikas Vohra ARS, Head AGB, NDRI, Karnal (Session 4 - Animal Production, Management and Welfare).
The day concluded with a vibrant cultural evening by the students of CVAS Pookode and violin concert by Shri Regi Gopinath, the famous violinist and music director, adding colour and energy to the scientific deliberations.
The scientific sessions continued on 9 November, showcasing innovative research, emerging technologies, and practical advancements in animal health and production. The lead speakers for the day were Dr K Sreedhar, Forest Veterinary Surgeon, Arignar Annai Zoological Park, Govt of Tamilnadu (Session 5- Wildlife Management and Medicine), Prof Dr Sreekrishna Isloor, Head, Dept of Microbiology, Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University and Dr Ashwin Raut ARS, NIHSAD, Bhopal (Session 6- Animal Health Takes A Team). Scientists and scholars from across India actively contributed to knowledge-sharing and discussions.
As a part of the Congress, a dedicated Farmer–Scientist Interaction Programme (Gorochanam) was conducted on the morning of 9 November 2025. Eminent resource persons (AHD Kerala) and progressive farmers from various sectors provided updates on recent developments in cattle, pig, poultry and goat rearing.
The inaugural function of the programme was presided over by the Lady Vice President of IVA Kerala, Dr Sumi Chandran. Dr Yancy Mary Issac, Secretary, IVA Pookode welcomed the gathering. Dr Saji Joseph, Deputy Director, AHD Wayand delivered the keynote address. The Treasurer of IVA Pookode, Dr Roshin Anie Jose, proposed the vote of thanks. The resource persons included Dr R Venugopal, Dr Saji Thomas Thoppil, Dr R Sudhi and Shri Sreenivasa Acharya, Yasodhavana Goat farm, Mysuru.
Each participating farmer received a utility kit containing feed supplements, first-aid medicines, and informational materials. Around 100 invited farmers took part in the session and dispersed after lunch.
The Congress concluded with a solemn valedictory function presided over by Dr. V. K. P Mohan Kumar, General Secretary, IVA Kerala. The State Treasurer, Dr Irshad A welcomed the gathering. The valedictory address was delivered by Dr Ajith Jacob George, Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode. Dr. Bindya Liz Abraham, Organizing Secretary, VSC-2025, presented a detailed summary of the three-day proceedings. A total of 50 Awards were distributed to the faculty and student winners of oral and poster presentations, including the prestigious Dr. Bhavadasan Memorial Young Scientist Award, instituted for the very first time in Veterinary Science Congress. This landmark recognition, along with several other honours, were conferred on outstanding contributors, making the conclusion of the Congress particularly memorable and significant.
